Frank DiPaola, MD, is board-certified in pediatric gastroenterology and pediatric transplant hepatology and has joined UVA as director of Pediatric Hepatology and medical director of Pediatric Liver Transplantation. He has a national reputation for excellence in the care of children with acute and chronic liver disease. In his leadership role at UVA, he will work to continue growing the pediatric hepatology services to help ensure that all children across Virginia have access to the most advanced treatments available, including liver transplantation. 

Dr. DiPaola is originally from North Carolina and received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then completed a residency in pediatrics at the Monroe Carell Junior Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, followed by sequential fellowships in pediatric gastroenterology and pediatric transplant hepatology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Prior to his arrival at UVA, Dr. DiPaola was a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Michigan, where he served as an ambulatory care clinical chief of pediatric medical specialties and medical director of the pediatric specialties ambulatory care unit at Mott Children’s Hospital.
