Couse 1:Fundamentals of Surgical Research Course
Target Audience:
• Undergraduate and Medical Students
• Residents
• Fellows
• Junior Faculty
Objectives:
• Find the right mentor for your research
• Efficiently manage time to succeed in research projects
• Apply for research funding, and where to obtain these funds
• Develop a hypothesis and design experiments to test it
• Submit work for national meetings
• Deliver an effective research presentation
• Prepare and revise a manuscript based on research findings
• Optimize success in basic/translational research and clinical/health services research (via breakout sessions)
Course 2: Early Career Development Course
Target Audience:
• Residents
• Fellows
• Early Career Faculty
Objectives:
• Effectively plan and start your academic career
• Negotiate your job, resources, and programmatic support
• Make the most of society, university, and hospital committee involvement and achieve national and local visibility
• Obtain initial grant funding
• Find mentorship/Be a good mentee
• Craft an effective 'Elevator Pitch' to promote your research program or professional interests
• Prioritize among your academic responsibilities
• Manage and lead a team
• Understand unconscious bias
• Be an effective educator
• Cope with and recover from setbacks
