Dr. Melissa Byrne works clinically at the University Hospital, East Ann Arbor outpatient surgical center, and the Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital. Dr. Byrne earned her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Kalamazoo College, then worked for several years as a chemist and research assistant, developing GCMS protocols for neonatal toxin exposures. She went on to obtain her master’s degree in Public Health, specializing in management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her doctor of osteopathic medicine from Michigan State University. She completed her internship and residency training at the University of Michigan, then went into private practice in Williamsburg, Virginia, before returning to Michigan to complete a Regional and Ambulatory Anesthesia fellowship, where she has since stayed on as faculty. Academic interests include root cause analyses, resident education, clinical point-of-care ultrasound, and regional anesthesia.
