Margaret Ryan BSc(Hons), MSC, MBA(distinction), MPC, DipAgVetPharm, LVChC, IP, MRPharmS, FFRPS is presently Lead Clinician for Prescribing Services in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Chair of the Scottish Prescribing Advisers Association and a Lead Pharmacist within the Therapeutics Branch Pharmacy and Medicines Division, Directorate for Chief Medical Officer, Scottish Government. She has had a wide ranging career having worked in a range of hospital pharmacy posts (dispensary, clinical pharmacy, pharmacokinetics, psychiatry and care of the elderly) as well as in community pharmacy before becoming a prescribing adviser within primary care. Last year she completed the Review of the Gluten Free Food Service supported development of the Specials Framework and is involved in various pharmacy working groups. She presently is Chair of the national pharmacy group on `Medicine Shortages`, `Antimicrobial Dressings Prescribing` and the `Prescribing of Oral Nutritional Supplements`. Key aspects of her role which covers both acute and primary care includes the promotion and monitoring of prescribing quality, safety, clinical and cost effectiveness as well as governance, non-medical prescribing.
