Dr. Redding received his medical degree from Stanford University after obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at the University of California in San Diego. He completed his pediatric residency at Harbor General/UCLA and his pediatric pulmonary fellowship at the University of Colorado. In 1980, he developed the Pediatric Pulmonary Division in Seattle and has been the Division Chief ever since. He is a Professor of Pediatrics, Chief of the Pulmonary Medicine Division, and Director of the Pediatric Pulmonary Training Center grant. Dr. Redding is committed to improvement in children’s health and health care through research, training, and clinical excellence.

Dr. Redding is a nationally recognized expert and leader in pediatric pulmonary medicine. His clinical scope is broad, though he is specifically interested in children with thoracic deformities/scoliosis, interstitial lung diseases, and asthma.

Dr. Redding has many research interests, including the pathogenesis of chronic lung disease in developing countries, disorders of the thoracic cage and their treatments, and interstitial lung disease in children. His philosophy on training and education is to assure independent and critical thinking and the application of physiologic principles to clinical problems. He mentors and actively promotes the success of all members and trainees within the Pulmonary Division.
