Gerry's research interests centre on understanding the pharmacology of HIV and TB drugs and developing better bacteriological biomarkers of treatment outcome in TB. An infectious diseases physician and senior member of the multidisciplinary Infection Pharmacology group in Liverpool, at MLW he also works closely with the Departments of Microbiology and Pharmacy at the College of Medicine. His team at MLW are involved in pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenetic studies, clinical trials and laboratory investigations of persistence in TB using enhanced culture, imaging and molecular techniques. These currently include the DATiC study of PK of TB drugs in children, the TB-RROC trial of home streptomycin administration for re-treatment of TB and the PanBiOME study evaluating novel methods for quantification of persister organisms in TB patients.
