Dr. Carrie M. Schaefer is a radiologist with Phoenix Children's who specializes in diagnostic radiology, pediatric radiology, and pediatric interventional radiology. Dr. Schaefer's areas of expertise include pediatric interventional radiology, vascular procedures, and ultrasound-guided procedures. She earned her medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Upon graduation, she completed a clinical internship and residency in diagnostic radiology at Michigan State University as well. She continued her training with a fellowship in pediatric radiology at Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Schaefer is board-certified in pediatric radiology and radiology. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Schaefer is also dedicated to clinical education and research. She holds academic positions at both the University of Arizona College of Medicine and Mayo Clinic as a clinical assistant professor of radiology and an associate professor of radiology respectively. Dr. Schaefer also holds professional affiliations with the Society for Pediatric Radiology, the Society of Interventional Radiology, and the Society of Pediatric Interventional Radiology.
Dr. Schaefer's research interests include vascular procedures and venous preservation. In 2019, she received a Leadership Circle Grant award for her development of a Venous Map," which is completed and now in each child's medical record at Phoenix Children's Hospital. Over the years, Dr. Schaefer has contributed to several medical journals, including the American Journal of Neuroradiology, Applied Radiology, the Annals of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Pediatric Radiology.
