Dr. Arna Banerjee attended medical school in Kolkata, India, and while a medical student, she volunteered routinely with the Missionaries of Charity. After migrating to the United States, she has continued to be very involved with global health and global health education in low and middle-income countries. Dr. Banerjee’s most recent work focuses on education in anesthesia and patient safety. Her current research projects focus on education in anesthesia using simulation, and her work is funded by grants from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER).

Dr. Banerjee is the director of the Center for Experiential Learning and Assessment (CELA) where high tech simulation training is provided at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and she is heavily involved with the educational mission of the Department of Anesthesiology and the institution. One of Dr. Banerjee’s goals is to promote anesthesia education in low and middle-income countries using immersive techniques and thus, improving patient safety and reducing perioperative mortality and morbidity.
