Andrew Copp is Professor of Developmental Neurobiology at the UCL Institute of Child Health (ICH), London, UK. He is Honorary Consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH). Between 2003 and 2012 he held the posts of ICH Director and Non-Executive Director of GOSH. Since 2012 he has directed the Newlife Birth Defects Research Centre at ICH, and now heads the Developmental Biology & Cancer Programme. He is a recent member of the MRC Non-Clinical Fellowships Panel, and a previous member of the MRC Neuroscience & Mental Health Board. He is a Trustee of the Bo Hjelt Spina Bifida Foundation and an Advisor to the Foulkes Foundation. His research focuses on the developmental biology of the brain and spinal cord, with particular reference to neurulation and the origin and prevention of neural tube defects. He is London Director of the Human Developmental Biology Resource (www.hdbr.com), a tissue bank that provides human fetal material under ethics committee approval for research into congenital disease.
