Description:
Necrotizing fasciitis is a subset of aggressive skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) that cause necrosis and progressive destruction of the muscle fascia and overlying subcutaneous fat. This infection typically travels along the fascial plane, which has a poor blood supply, leaving the overlying tissues initially unaffected, and thus potentially delaying diagnosis and surgical intervention. Despite advances in the care, there is still an 20%-25% mortality from necrotizing fasciitis and clinicians need be able to recognize and treat it promptly. This enduring material video will educate providers and staff in the latest technologies in order to implement best practice based on the newest clinical guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of necrotizing fasciitis.
