The Preceptor Guide: Everything you need to know to be a Successful Preceptor is organized by Kentucky Association of Nurse Practitioners & Nurse-Midwives (KANPNM).

Description:
This presentation is an introduction to the preceptor role. Responsibilities of the nursing institution, the facility, the preceptor and the student will be reviewed. Strategies for a successful precepting experience will be discussed.  Benefits and barriers to precepting will be examined and techniques for overcoming barriers will be described.  Lastly, strategies on how to navigate having a difficult student will be discussed.

  • Understand the role and expectations of the clinical preceptor, the nurse practitioner student, and the institution
  • Describe teaching strategies to help in the process of precepting
  • Discuss techniques for overcoming barriers to precepting
