Postoperative Pain Management in Dentistry is organized by Dental Learning Systems, LLC. This Online CME conference is held from Aug 01, 2018 - Aug 31, 2021. This CME Conference has been designated for a maximum of 2.00 Credit(s).
Description :
Safe and effective treatment of acute postoperative pain is crucial for patient satisfaction and successful practice in dentistry. Ahead of providing a prescription for 20 tablets of an opioid-containing analgesic, different strategies have evolved and are acquired in dental practice to enhance the effectiveness of acute postoperative pain management. The use of peripherally acting analgesics and steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs preoperatively and intraoperatively, the administration of long-acting local anesthetics to delay pain onset, and the displayed enhanced pain-relieving properties of combinations of peripherally acting analgesics, such as ibuprofen combined with acetaminophen, have become common in many dental practices. These alternative strategies may decrease the reliance on prescription opioid pain relievers following dental surgery.
Learning Objectives :
• Explain three adjunctive drug procedures that prevent or limit the complexity of postoperative pain.
• Describe the rationale for joining the two peripherally acting analgesics acetaminophen and ibuprofen.
• Review patient recommendations for the safe and responsible use of prescription opioid analgesics.
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
