Ovarian function suppression (OFS) has redefined the therapeutic landscape for premenopausal women with hormone receptor–positive breast cancer. What was once viewed as a supportive hormonal intervention is now recognized as a critical determinant of long-term outcomes, requiring nuanced clinical judgment and patient-centered decision-making.
This CME/CE activity provides a comprehensive exploration of the evolving science and clinical application of OFS, integrating updates from ASCO, NCCN, and ESMO guidelines with long-term efficacy data from the SOFT, TEXT, and HOBOE trials. Through in-depth expert discussion, participants will examine real-world variations in OFS practice, including timing of initiation, duration of therapy, and emerging evidence comparing monthly versus every-three-month GnRH agonist dosing.
The program also addresses key gaps in clinical confidence, such as interpreting estradiol assays, balancing efficacy with tolerability, and mitigating adverse effects on bone, cardiovascular, and sexual health. Learners will gain multidisciplinary perspectives from oncology, cardio-oncology, and survivorship medicine to better integrate OFS into comprehensive care plans.
By the end of this activity, clinicians will be equipped to personalize OFS strategies that enhance adherence, improve long-term health outcomes, and support the overall quality of life for young women navigating endocrine therapy in early-stage breast cancer.
"Ovarian function suppression improves outcomes in high-risk premenopausal breast cancer patients when combined with endocrine therapy. As we improve outcomes, we must also consider the whole person through a multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach."— Layla Agarwal, MD
