Overview:
With fetal chromosomal aneuploidies being a common cause of congenital malformation and miscarriages, screening for these aneuploidies has for many years been identified by ACOG as an important component of obstetrical care. Noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) provides a means to screen women for these chromosomal aneuploidies that offer high levels of sensitivity and specificity.

Join Dr. Lee Shulman as he discusses the barriers in integrating the latest 2016/2018 ACOG and SMFM NIPT for Fetal Aneuploidy statements and ACMG recommendations into prenatal visits for all pregnant patients and how to overcome them. Also covered will be the benefits and disadvantages of traditional fetal chromosomal aneuploidy screening tests compared with current molecular-based non-invasive screening tests and the evolving role of NIPT in a general-risk obstetrical population. He will also discuss how to incorporate appropriate screening and diagnostic protocols as well as the latest technologies into clinical decision-making for assessing fetal chromosomal aneuploidies.

Learning Objectives:
The goal of this activity is to enable effective collaboration between the members of the professional teams who care for patients with NIPT. After participating in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:
• Overcome barriers and demonstrate competency in integrating the latest 2016/2018 ACOG/SMFM Non-invasive Prenatal Testing for Fetal Aneuploidy statements and ACMG recommendations into prenatal visits for all pregnant patients
• Explain the benefits and disadvantages of traditional fetal chromosomal aneuploidy screening tests compared with current molecular-based non-invasive screening tests
• Explain the evolving role of NIPT in a general-risk obstetrical population
• Incorporate appropriate screening and diagnostic protocols according to evidence-based guidelines and latest technologies into clinical decision-making for assessing fetal chromosomal aneuploidies.

Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
