Cancer is a public health problem of major proportions. Each year, more than 600,000 people in the United States die from cancer. There have been many advances in the practices of rehabilitation medicine, psychology, neurology and other clinical specialties that identify and treat patients with cancer. Fatigue and loss of physical performance are frequent problems of cancer patients. This symposium will provide practical, evidence-based rehabilitation strategies to accurately treat oncology patients of various types, including contraindications for treatment.

Learning Objectives:
• Recognize current aesthetic breast reconstruction procedures.
• Explain clinical pearls for aesthetic refinements in implant breast reconstruction.
• Classify all areas of the ptotic and large breast.
• Review cancer rehabilitation in the continuum of care.
• Discuss the need for rehabilitation in patients with metastases to the spine.
• Outline the MCI Cancer Rehabilitation Model.
• Explain the effect cancer treatments and malnourishment have in the development of sarcopenia.
• Implement early screening and assessment of sarcopenia and incorporate nutritional and rehabilitative interventions.
• Identify the domains of female sexual dysfunction.
• Be aware of screening tools for female sexual health.
• Recognize the treatment options for female sexual dysfunction.
• Identify common pelvic floor dysfunctions affecting the bowel, bladder, posture and sexual health, which may be indications for pelvic floor rehabilitation for men and women.
• Recognize the benefits of pelvic floor rehabilitation for improving patient quality of life and decreasing pain.
• Introduce various interventions used within pelvic floor therapy beyond basic Kegel exercises.
• Explain how to refer to a pelvic rehabilitation specialist.
• Learn common morbidities associated with head and neck cancers and related treatment.
• Learn interventions associated with reducing head and neck cancer morbidity.
• Recognize that the head and neck cancer (HNC) patients may develop numerous treatment side effects that can lead to significant permanent functional impairments.
• Utilize physical therapy (PT) to treat and manage cervical dysfunction, cancer-related fatigue (CRF), lymphedema and shoulder dysfunction.
• Understand the role of the cardio-oncology and assess the risk for cardiac complications during cancer treatment.
• Identifying cancer patients that would benefit from traditional cardiac rehab.
• Understand the role of cardiac rehab in improving cardiac risk in cancer patients.
