Course Overview
Medical Acid-Base Explained Clearly is a course designed to clarify, review, and augment the training and understanding of primary care clinicians in their understanding of medical acid-base problems. The modules included in this course take a departure from the traditional slide presentation style lecture. Instead, the course is comprised of a series of video lectures aided by real-time instructor-led chalkboard visuals. This method of learning allows for the subject matter to be broken down to the basics and is designed to increase learning and retention.

Many primary care clinicians lack a clear understanding of medical acid-base. This course aims to improve their understanding of the medical acid-base and its associated problems, the underlying causes for medical acid-base problems, and appropriate and effective treatment. This CME course will utilize a combination of videos, quizzes, and systematic discussion of clinical scenarios and practice cases to effectively deliver the course content.

Course Objectives:

As a result of this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

• Use a methodical approach to the medical acid-base and its associated disorders.
• Describe the anion gap, calculate it, and apply it to any medical acid-base disorder present in a patient.
• Identify multiple concurrent medical acid-base disorders in a patient.

What You'll Receive From This Course:
• A systematic approach to lab results to spot abnormal acid-base findings and solve acid-base questions
• A clear understanding of the four primary types: metabolic acidosis, respiratory acidosis, metabolic alkalosis, and respiratory alkalosis
• Illustrations of Winter's Formulas, the Anion Gap, Compensation, and the balance involved with Bicarb, Carbon Dioxide, and more
• Hands-on interpretation practice with multiple practice cases. Dr. Seheult will work through these in the video in real-time
• A clinical perspective of acid-base nuances
• Includes 1.5 CME (category 1), MOC Points, CE Credits
• A post-course quiz to reinforce core concepts and help you study
