Course Description:
This presentation will review different conceptual models of disability and their relationship between implicit and explicit attitudes. Ableism will be reviewed in detail, as well as how ableism and implicit attitudes present themselves in healthcare settings and specific to the field of neuropsychology. The aims of this presentation are to increase awareness of these unconscious biases and to highlight ways to reduce harm caused by ableism from healthcare providers and throughout our communities. Familiarity with the Harvard Implicit Association Test (IAT) is recommended.
After attending this Online Course, attendees will be able to:
• Analyze the different models of disability.
• Define modern forms of ableism.
• Differentiate explicit and implicit attitudes and biases.
• Describe implicit ableism in health care settings.
• Identify strategies to overcome implicit biases including ableism.
