Course Description

This ethics CEU course is PACE pre-approved by CCMC for 4 hours of ethics CE. Covers incorporating ethical principles and behaviors into the practice of healthcare case management; professional conduct code for case managers; general overview of civil and criminal law; ethical factors in end-of-life care, involuntary hospitalization, and suicide risk. Take our Ethics Part 2: Burnout and Stress and our Ethics Part 3: Workplace Violence courses to complete your 8-contact-hour requirement for license renewal.

Learning Outcome and Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, you will have the current, evidence-based information and tools you need to accurately identify and report suspected dependent adult and vulnerable elder abuse. Specific learning objectives to address potential knowledge gaps include:
• Differentiate between ethical theories based on their purposes.
• Summarize the fundamental ethical principles generally associated with the practice of healthcare as a whole.
• Discuss the Code of Professional Conduct for Case Managers.
• Describe the types of law in the United States.
• Identify how civil and criminal law apply to the practice of case management.
• Discuss legal and ethical factors relating to end-of-life care and suicide risk.
