This seminar targets Nurse Practitioners who treat pain in any practice setting. The seminar discusses potential ethical dilemmas in treating pain, proper monitoring techniques, analysis of Urine Drug Screen (UDS) results, crucial conversations, and tapering schedules. Regardless of the practice setting, clinicians are typically asked to consider treating pain. This seminar will arm the clinician with the information to be considered when resolving this conflict. Specific topics to be covered are 1. Ethical considerations of pain treatments. 2. Common opioid pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and number needed to treat for common complaints. 3. Rules regarding UDS frequency, analysis of results, and implications of the results. 4. Conducting crucial conversations. 5. Recognized tapering schedules.
