Cognitive illness and dementia - an in-depth study of diagnosis, treatment and care is organized by Region Skane and will be held from Dec 07 - 11, 2020.
Description:
Dementia, or cognitive illness, is one of society's greatest medical, psychosocial and economic challenges. Increased knowledge about patients suffering from cognitive illness is an important sub-goal for most specialist educations, mainly in neurology, psychiatry, geriatrics and general medicine. Physicians in these specialties regularly treat patients with cognitive impairment. According to SoS National guidelines for care and care for dementia in 2017, an estimated 20,000 - 25,000 individuals fall ill each year and a total of approximately 150,000 are estimated to be affected in Sweden. The total number is expected to increase as the large number of people born in the 1940s gets older. We also note an increasing influx of younger patients as more and more people pay attention to their symptoms earlier in the course of the disease.
Overall goals:
To be able to carry out and interpret a diagnostic investigation of people with suspected cognitive illness, and to handle an often medically and psychosocially complex situation throughout the course of the illness.
Results for the participant:
• Recognize symptoms and medical history that indicate incipient or established cognitive illness of various genesis.
• Have knowledge of which investigations should be made to facilitate diagnosis and be a guide for treatment strategies. This must be based on evidence-based experience, be clinically relevant and contain methods for evaluation, and be compatible with ethical and legal standards
• Differential diagnosis between different cognitive disorders and psychiatric conditions
• The course will provide in-depth knowledge so the participants get a larger and broader basis for increased professional skills.
