OVERVIEW

Adding Fortifier to Human Milk: How to Optimize Safety is organized by NICUniversity.

Program Overview:
Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is an intestinal disease that primarily affects premature and medically fragile infants. NEC causes an inflammatory process that can lead to intestinal tissue damage and death.

This program discusses the benefits, risks to consider and best practices for adding fortifiers to human milk for infants with NEC.

This presentation was originally given during the 2019 NEC Symposium in Ann Arbor, MI. The symposium focused on breaking down the barriers of NEC prevention and treatment. It provided the setting for discovery, collaboration, and sustained partnerships on patient-centered research.
