Description:
This workshop, part of the Addiction Medicine Review Course 201, is a collaboration between the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) and the California Society of Addiction Medicine (CSAM). The goal is to teach clinically relevant addiction psychiatry interventions to non-psychiatric addiction medicine providers. The workshop will include didactic information on psychopharmacology for individuals with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders, breakout discussions of cases, and an interactive Q&A session.
Learning objectives
• Understand alternative assessment and treatment approaches for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorder and unipolar depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, PTSD, anxiety disorders, and ADHD
• Implement basic psychopharmacology heuristics for individuals with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders
• Develop an understanding of brief psychotherapeutic interventions that naturally lend themselves to integration into a medical model
