MANDATORY DELAWARE NURSING CEU. Fulfills the requirement for 3 contact hours of continuing nursing education on substance abuse for DE nurses, focusing on prescription drug abuse and diversion, challenges in managing chronic pain, and best practices for prescribing controlled substances. ANCC-accredited provider; accepted by the Delaware Board of Nursing.

Course Learning Objectives:
1) Describe components of responsible opioid prescribing.
2) Summarize the CDC and Delaware guidelines for the safe prescribing of opioids.
3) Explain strategies designed to prevent prescription drug misuse and diversion.
4) Identify considerations for the use of the opioid antagonist naloxone.
