Description:
The FMA is committed to providing physicians with professional development and educational opportunities that will strengthen their ability to succeed and thrive in whatever professional setting they choose to practice within. Today's healthcare professionals are facing unprecedented organizational, cultural, and professional changes and challenges. With this in mind, the FMA has collaborated with a variety of experts to develop a series of online courses intended to support the leadership skills of Florida physicians. This particular module presented by an expert in conflict management discusses various aspects of conflict, highlights common reasons it occurs, and models an active problem-solving tactic that can be employed to manage conflict (distinguish between the symptoms and root causes) and achieve a more positive culture. The module starts with a case intended to help learners understand how different people approach to conflict and determine how best to manage it. The ultimate goal is to give learners actionable information, tactics, and tools to achieve more effective conflict management.
Objectives:
As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:
• Evaluate their own past success in managing conflict
• Appreciate the financial cost of unresolved conflicts to both individuals and organizations
• Recognize that unconscious biases often play a key role in conflict
• Utilize the 3 step problem solving tactic to manage conflict
• Discuss the five conflict styles and acknowledge their own tendencies
