OVERVIEW

Podcast: Optimizing Treatment and Functional Outcomes in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma are organized by i3 Health.

Dates: October 1, 2021 - September 30, 2022

Description:
Expert insight into the latest treatment options for patients suffering from head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. This includes safety and tolerability, survivorship, and many other topics. Leading experts Lynsey Tulings, NP, and Lynsey Burtness, MD are the presenters. Get started now.
Statement Of Need:
HNSCC (head and neck squamous cell carcinoma) is a heterogeneous group that includes tumors in the hypopharynx and hypopharynx as well as the larynx and nasopharynx. The disease is responsible for approximately 66,630 new cases in the United States each year and 14620 deaths annually (Siegel et. al., 2021). HNSCC was historically associated with smoking and alcohol. However, HPV infection is now being recognized as a factor in a growing number of cancers (NCCN 2020; Chaturvedi, et al., 2011). Human papillomavirus-associated oropharyngeal carcinoma is a distinct entity in terms of etiology, biology, and clinical behavior; importantly, it has a more favorable prognosis and might require less intensive therapy. Although multimodality treatment has improved and there are more ways to treat head and neck cancers, the death rate for oral cavity and pharynx cancers is increasing (a 0.5% increase in incidence per year between 2009 and 2018). The prognosis for metastatic HNSCCs remains poor (Siegel and al., 2021; Chang and al. 2017, 2020; Pisani and al. 2020).

Learning Objectives:
Participants should be able, upon completion, to
• Differentiate between HPV-associated and HPV-negative HNSCCs, and their implications on the importance of function preservation
• Review the most recent clinical trial data for novel therapeutic approaches to locally advanced and metastatic HNSCC
• Assess strategies to improve the safety and tolerability of HNSCC treatment, and ensure optimal survivorship care
