OVERVIEW

Integrating Addiction Medicine with Treatment Courts is organized by American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and will be held on Nov 13, 2024.

Description:
This 6-hour, live course provides the education needed for prescribing clinicians to strengthen skills in partnering with treatment court and advocating for patients who are involved in treatment court. The course will include didactive presentations, small group discussions, FAQs, and challenging case studies.

ASAM is partnering with All Rise through an Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) grant initiative to allow medical providers active with and new to the drug treatment court field access to training to help guide them in successful integration of services for individuals with substance use disorders involved in the justice system.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, learners will be able to:

  • Describe ways to reduce stigma against people with substance use disorders, including the use of accurate terminology. 
  • Explain the role of timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment for clients/participants first engaging in treatment courts.
  • Define addiction as a chronic and manageable disease.
  • Describe the purpose, structure, and effectiveness of treatment courts.
  • Define the roles and responsibilities of treatment court team members.
  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of medical providers within treatment court settings. 
  • Apply best clinical and partnership practices to case examples of patients who are engaged in treatment court and addiction treatment.
  • Advocate effectively for access to evidence-based treatment with treatment court team members. 
  • Coordinate care within professional settings to individuals involved in treatment courts.

Physicians
The American Society of Addiction Medicine designates this enduring material for a maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses
This activity awards 6 Nursing contact hours.

Pharmacy

PAs
ASAM has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 6 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid until 11/12/2027. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

Social Workers
As a Jointly Accredited Organization, ASAM is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 6 general continuing education credits.

IPCE Credit
This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 6 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.
