OVERVIEW

UHM Journal-Based CME Volume 49, Issue 4 is organized by Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).

Date of the activity’s original release: February 6, 2023
Termination date: February 6, 2026

Goal:
For over 45 years the UHMS has been the primary source of information for hyperbaric medicine and physiology worldwide. This evidence based, peer-reviewed scientific journal-based CME has as its goal to address identified professional practice gaps and provide a quality CME opportunity which will improve scientific knowledge and skills for undersea, hyperbaric and wound care physicians, nurses and technicians, and other clinicians and personnel whose practice includes undersea, hyperbaric medicine and wound care.

Objectives:

  • To understand that HBO2 is a viable treatment of retinal artery occlusion.
  • To understand that HBO2 should be monitored by fluorescein angiogram. In case of retinal artery repermeabilization, HBO2 should be discontinued.
  • To understand how pulmonary oxygen toxicity (POT) may be estimated by different methods.
  • To understand that no single method can estimate POT accurately in all conditions though Arieli K provides a better estimate than UPTD.
  • To understand the trends in the prevalence rates of prescription medication use in the U.S. submarine force from 2007 to 2018.
  • To describe characteristics associated with increased prescription use in the submarine force.
  • To provide recommendations for future work in the area of prescription use among submariners
