Learning Objectives:
• Recognize the indications, contraindications, and drug interactions of classic monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) in the treatment of severe depression.
• Discover interactions associated with and dispel misconceptions about classic MAOIs.
• Review case summaries illustrating the effectiveness of classic MAOIs to understand their safe and optimal use in treating specific cases of depression.
• Explore advanced clinical issues on MAOI use, such as augmentation agents and side-effect management.
