Description:
In this journal-based CME activity, you will review principles and techniques for the surgical management of hallux valgus by following an evolving patient case scenario based on a recent article from the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS). After the reading, you will complete an assessment to test your orthopaedic knowledge, problem-solving, and clinical decision-making skills.
Learning Objectives:
• Discuss the anatomy and pathophysiology of Hallux valgus.
• Describe the common presentation and physical examination findings of a patient with hallux valgus.
• Explain radiographic measurements used to determine the severity of hallux valgus.
• Summarize surgical treatment options for the correction of hallux valgus based on the severity of deformity.
• Review common complications after surgical correction of hallux valgus.
