OVERVIEW

7th Alfred P. Fishman Symposium: New Scientific Discoveries and Impact on Patients with Pulmonary Hypertension or Pulmonary Embolism is organized by Penn Medicine - Continuing Medical and Interprofessional Education and will be held from Apr 11 - 12, 2025 at Smilow Center for Translational Research, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America.

Description:
The Alfred P. Fishman Symposium will present cutting-edge topics pertinent to various types of pulmonary vascular disease. Major advances in research and understanding of the pathobiology and physiology in different types of pulmonary hypertension have translated into novel treatments for patients and a new way of looking at what constitutes successful treatment. Evolving treatment paradigms require a re-evaluation of clinical trial designs which are focused on patient well-being.

Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review how recent scientific discoveries in pulmonary hypertension can directly translate to improved patient outcomes
  • Discuss the different types of pulmonary hypertension and the appropriate treatment for each.
  • Describe the approach to risk stratification and choice of therapies or referral for lung transplantation
  • Review the new standard of care in treatment of pulmonary embolism and follow-up
  • Discuss novel and alternative approaches to studying treatments in patients with pulmonary hypertension
