Penn Neuromuscular Course 2025 is organized by Penn Medicine - Continuing Medical and Interprofessional Education and will be held on May 17, 2025 at Smilow Center for Translational Research, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America.

Description:
The annual Penn Neuromuscular Symposium will discuss available and novel therapies for patients with neuromuscular disorders ranging from immuno-modulation to gene therapy. Experts will also present clinical cases selected from the Penn neuromuscular clinic to discuss where new diagnostic methods and treatments apply. The course will be interactive and attendees are encouraged to participate and exchange their experience and ask questions as they see fit. The Symposium will also explain how to enhance collaboration and knowledge exchange among neurologists and other healthcare professionals taking care of this unique patient population, which will also help facilitate enrollment in exciting clinical trials.

Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe novel treatment in myasthenia gravis
  • Discuss new methods to diagnose and treat neuropathy in Hereditary Transthyretin Amyloidosis.
  • Discuss different type of demyelinating neuropathies and how to manage them
  • Describe novel treatments for people with SMA and ALS
  • Discuss management of neuromuscular complications of vasculitis
  • Apply antibody testing in inflammatory myopathies and describe novel therapies for inflammatory myopathies
  • Discuss gene therapy for hereditary myopathies
  • Discuss application of car-T in autoimmune neuromuscular disorders

Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, Penn Medicine is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Designation of Credit

Physicians: Penn Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. PAs may receive a maximum of 6.25 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.

Nurses: This program provides 6.25 NCPD hours.  

ABS MOC: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn 6.25 credits toward the CME and Self-Assessment requirements of the American Board of Surgery’s Continuous Certification program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABS credit.
