Masters in Lipidology Course: Sep 05 - 06, 2024
Overview:
The NLA’s Masters in Lipidology course has been completely revised for 2024. The new course format is intended to provide advanced training to Lipid Specialists and other health care professionals in the treatment of complex lipid disorders. Through case discussions, practical application in practice and the various treatment opinions from the expert faculty, participants in the course will leave with confidence in their role as a consultative lipid specialist. Faculty and guest panelists will cover a number of complex disorders in each course offering. Topics and faculty may vary by course date and location. Participants in this course will learn how to recognize and diagnose complex lipid disorders. The course will also describe the various treatment options for each disorder, key clinical trial data for pharmacologic therapies, and how to develop treatment plans.

Masters in Lipidology is offered as a 2-day course prior to NLA meetings (Clinical Lipid Updates [CLU] and Scientific Sessions).

Course Curriculum:

  • Complex Cases and Consultative Lipidology

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize lipid disorders including (insert Consultative Case Module topics selected) through case discussions.
  • Describe mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy of approved therapies to treat lipid disorders.
  • Evaluate data from key clinical trials of lipid-altering drug therapies.
  • Diagnose complex lipid disorders.
  • Compose a treatment plan for patients with complex lipid disorders.
  • Distinguish roles in a team-based approach to care.
  • Discuss strategies to improve the knowledge, skills or performance of the healthcare team.

Mastering Triglyceride Science: An In-Depth Master’s Course: Sep 06, 2024
Overview:
Join us for our BRAND NEW! Mastering Triglyceride Science Master’s Course – a 1-day master’s level course designed to address knowledge, competence, and practice gaps in managing hypertriglyceridemia and its associated pathophysiological manifestation and to provide you with improved proficiency on the complexities of severe hypertriglyceridemia, and targets of therapy.

The course will review the latest evidence and research on triglyceride disorders, targets of therapy, and existing and novel triglyceride-lowering therapies. Participants will be expected to improve their severe hypertriglyceridemia knowledge and competence, expand the depth of their understanding of lipid science, and help their patients make informed decisions about lipid therapies to reduce the risk of extreme complications related to severe hypertriglyceridemia.

The Mastering Triglyceride is offered as a one-day course prior to NLA meetings (Clinical Lipid Updates [CLU] and Scientific Sessions).

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss strategies for the management of patients with lipid disorders.
  • Recognize the prevalence of triglyceride-rich remnant lipoproteins in ASCVD.
  • Discuss treatment options for hypertriglyceridemia, both for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with ASCVD.
  • Outline appropriate therapy options for high CVD risk patients with elevated triglyceride levels.
  • Identify the clinical and genetic attributes, available diagnostic tools, and screening practices to aid the identification of individuals with chylomicronemia syndrome.
  • Explain the role of genetic testing in the identification of familial chylomicronemia syndrome (FCS) and multifactorial chylomicronemia (MCM).
  • Outline appropriate therapy options for patients with chylomicronemia syndrome and multifactorial chylomicronemia.
