OVERVIEW

Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) 2023 Speech Symposium is organized by Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) and will be held on Feb 04, 2023 at Goldman Auditorium Barrow Neurological Institute, Phoenix, Arizona, United States of America.

Description:
Critical illness and its associated interventions create vulnerabilities in its survivors, including dysphagia. Often, these medically complex patients have medically complex solutions, but that doesn’t mean that approaches to therapy need to be complex. With a working knowledge and a systematic approach, these patients can be equally intriguing as they are challenging. In fact, most will challenge your thinking and your clinical skills, ultimately growing you as a clinician. This course will provide approaches and tools for speech-language pathologists to succeed in the management and clinical documentation of dysphagia in medically complex patients.

Course Learning Objectives:
• Describe at least three approaches to obtaining and synthesizing information data from medical records for the patient’s overall condition and cognitive, speech, language, voice, and swallowing functions.
• Describe at least three concerns associated with acute care dysphagia management that may have rehabilitation implications.
• Discuss the differences and limitations of swallowing screenings, clinical evaluations, and instrumental exams across the health care continuum
• Identify at least three ways to improve clinical report writing.
