This intensive workshop is ideal for researchers at any stage of their career who seek specialized training in precise and reproducible stereotaxic surgical techniques for brain manipulation such as brain cannulation, brain injection and cerebral spinal fluid collection.

Gain practical experience in a variety of stereotaxic techniques essential for accurately targeting specific regions of the brain in laboratory mice. This hands-on workshop provides detailed instruction on how to use a stereotaxic device and guides participants through every step of the surgical process, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of both the theory and practice behind stereotaxic guided brain manipulation.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Standards of survival surgery
  • How to read a Vernier scale and Brain Atlas
  • Animal positioning (ear bar placement)
  • How to define bregma
  • Intracranial drilling
  • Brain injection and brain cannulation (including ICVC and Bilateral)
  • CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) collection

This in-person workshop offers a unique opportunity to work directly with experienced instructors, receive personalized feedback, and develop your surgical skillset in a supportive, hands-on environment.

Completion of the workshop may be used towards continuing education units for AALAS and Academy of Surgical Research (ASR) re-certification.
