Description:
The Special Topics in Womens Health lectures focus on changes in women's physical and mental health during important life transitions: menses, pregnancy and postpartum. Participants will learn the latest evidence-based treatments to address the mental issues that arise with these transitions. Additionally, the Special Topics in Womens Health will address traumatic occurrences that disproportionately affect women's health, i.e., domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as, the latest evidence-bases treatments to address the trauma that arises from these events.

  1. Mood Disorders in Reproductive Age Women
    • Identify and treat psychological issues that arise in their patients health profile that have to do with menstrual cycle hormonal fluctuations.
  2. Psychological Issues in the Transition to Motherhood
    • Identify and treat psychological issues that arise in their patient's health profile that have to do with the transition to motherhood.
  3. Biopsychosocial Changes in the Postpartum
    • Identify and treat psychological issues that arise in their patient's health profile that have to do with the postpartum period, particularly postpartum depression.
  4. Domestic Violence and Relationship Abuse
    • Identifying and treating the different responses to sexual trauma and how best to deal with that in their practice.
  5. Domestic Violence and Relationship Abuse
    • Identify and treat the intersection of physiological and psychological factors that effect responses to trauma and apply this to treating survivors.
  6. Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence
    • Identify and treat the issues that arise in patient's physical and mental health profiles that have their etiology in sexual assault and violence.
  7. Understanding and Treating Psychological Trauma
    • Identify and integrate evidence-based and trauma-informed intervention techniques that are used in treating survivors of sexual trauma.
  8. Interactive Case Studies on Treating Survivors of Sexual and Interpersonal Violence.
  9. Pain Management in the Age of Diversion
    • Identify the opioid crisis & multi-modal pain control to enhance improved outcomes
    • Analyze pain management options & treatments of complex pain
    • Optimize pain care to enhance outcomes & avoid substance abuse>/li>
  10. Updates in Palliative Care Discuss the role of Palliative Care to improve team performance & quality of life
