OVERVIEW

AO Spine Advanced Level Specimen Course - Complex Degenerative Pathologies: Current Concept and Future Directions is organized by AOSpine and will be held from Sep 11 - 12, 2025 at Bern, Switzerland.

Goal
AO Spine Advanced Level Specimen Course—Complex degenerative pathologies: Current concept and future directions

Description:
This two-day course will focus on the challenges imposed on spine surgeons in the treatment of complex degenerative conditions of the spine. The theoretical part about surgical techniques will be provided as video lectures before the course. A theoretical part on site will summarize the available evidence for decision-making in debate, lecture and case discussions. In the lab, we will perform some of the highly relevant surgical procedures required to successfully manage complex degenerative conditions. You will be introduced to principles of surgical navigation and robotics in the cervical spine. Moreover, we will train ALIF, LLIF/OLIF, PSO and VCR in the lumbar spine and C0/C1/C2 fusion in the cervical spine. Furthermore, we will teach biportal endoscopy for lumbar decompression. There will be ample time for reflection after completing each station to consolidate

Objectives:
At the end of the course the participants will be able to

  • Analyze degenerative coronal and sagittal deformities
  • Select and perform anterior and posterior surgical techniques to treat degenerative conditions of the lumbar spine
  • Perform posterior fusion techniques of the upper cervical spine (C0-C2)
  • Understand and perform basic techniques of biportal endoscopy for lumbar decompression
