OVERVIEW

1st International Workshop On Long Acting Anti-Infectives (LAAI) is organized by Academic Medical Education (AME) and will be held from May 21 - 22, 2025 at New Orleans, Louisiana, United States of America.

Description:
The International Workshop On Long Acting Anti-Infectives (LAAI) is a crucial platform for advancing the development, implementation, and scale-up of long-acting and extended-release (LA/ER) anti-infective therapies. This 1st edition of the workshop will explore the transformative potential of LA/ER drug delivery in infectious disease management, with a focus on recent breakthroughs in HIV prevention and treatment.

Attendees will discuss the clinical application of these therapies in populations with historically low adherence, including pediatric patients, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and individuals experiencing homelessness.

By sharing knowledge on trial design, safety, efficacy, and implementation strategies, this 2-day hybrid workshop will contribute to the global effort to improve health outcomes, extending the benefits of these therapies beyond HIV to other infectious diseases like tuberculosis, malaria, and viral hepatitis.

Meeting Objectives:
This meeting aims to

  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration to accelerate the development and evaluation of long-acting anti-infective interventions targeting a spectrum of infectious diseases
  • Discuss the efficacy, safety, and accessibility of novel agents across diverse populations
  • Outline the patterns of anti-infective drug resistance and devise strategies to mitigate the impact of drug resistance on treatment outcomes and public health
