19th Annual Current Advances in Pediatrics is organized by Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine - Office of Continuing Medical Education and will be held on May 15, 2025 at Lurie Children's at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, Illinois, United States of America.

Description:
The 19th Annual Current Advances in Pediatrics Conference will include highly relevant topics aiming to provide pediatricians, primary care providers and ancillary staff with the most up to date information available for routinely addressed topics commonly seen during pediatric office visits. This year will focus on pediatric sepsis, asthma, encopresis, diabetes, and ophthalmology.

Objectives:

  • Discuss the new pediatric sepsis criteria.
  • Determine which patients the new pediatric sepsis criteria would apply to
  • Compare the importance of AUPRC vs AUROC in predicting rare outcomes of interest.
  • Explain the essentials of high-quality pediatric asthma care.
  • Discuss the newest guidelines in pediatric asthma care.
  • Implement best practices in pediatric asthma care.
  • Identify and diagnose encopresis.
  • Treat encopresis with and without constipation.
  • Determine when and where to refer patients with encopresis.
  • Review current understanding of diagnosis and management of pediatric diabetes.
  • List strategies for prevention of Type 1 diabetes.
  • Discuss innovations in diabetes technology.
  • Identify common pediatric ophthalmic conditions including strabismus (eye misalignment) and amblyopia (vision loss).
  • Discuss the basic medical and surgical options for treatment of pediatric ophthalmologic issues.
  • Recognize when to refer patients for ophthalmic evaluation.
