Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Clinical Update Symposium is organized by Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S) and will be held on Sep 21, 2024 at Roy and Diana Vagelos Education Center, New York, United States of America.
Description:
The IBD Clinical Update Symposium is an opportunity to learn about state-of-the-art, non-operative and operative treatments for patients with IBD. This activity is designed for pediatric and adult providers who are treating patients with IBD and would like to assess the risk versus benefits of surgical treatments and medical treatments. Experts from Columbia’s Adult and Pediatric IBD Center will share their experience through presentations and will demonstrate best practices in workshop settings.
This activity serves as an update in the diagnosis and management of patients with inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and related complications. In addition to traditional lecture topics, there will be case presentation and small group breakout lessons on specific topics. Participants will emerge with a renewed appreciation of multidisciplinary care needed to successfully treat patients with IBD. The faculty and speakers are the most experienced in the field, bringing expertise in both medical and surgical management. This activity will also address concerns about nutrition, stoma care, use of ultrasound in the evaluation paradigm and pediatric transition to adult care.
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants will be better able to:
• Incorporate emerging IBD therapeutics and testing into the treatment paradigm
• Recognize the emerging safety and efficacy data of IBD therapeutics
• Describe the surgical approaches for the management of severe UC
• Apply patient-specific needs in selecting a biologic for a patient with IBD (personalized medicine)
• Describe the medical and surgical approaches in patients with severe UC and pouchitis
• Implement current approaches for the management of postoperative recurrence in CD
• Delineate the utility of point of care intestinal ultrasound as a modality in monitoring IBD disease activity
• Recognize the value and role of therapeutic drug monitoring
• Describe the medical and surgical approaches in patients with severe UC and pouchitis
• Discuss the mechanisms that result in successful transition of patients from pediatric to adult care
