OVERVIEW

Exercise Prescription as a Complement to Manual Medicine 2024 is organized by Michigan State University (MSU) and will be held from Oct 25 - 28, 2024 at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, East Lansing, Michigan, United States of America.

Description:
This four-day program was developed in 1992 by Mark Bookhout, P.T. based upon the work of Vladimir Janda. This unique course is designed to complement the muscle energy biomechanical model. The exercises taught assist the participant in developing an individualized exercise program based upon the patient’s biomechanical findings and help to maintain the changes made after manual therapy treatment.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Recognize the functional anatomical connections of the upper and lower quarter musculature to the proximal trunk and pelvis;
  • Understand the concept of neuromuscular imbalance as a contributor to chronic musculoskeletal dysfunction;
  • Learn specific functional movement tests for the upper and lower quarter and manual therapy treatment approaches to address each dysfunctional movement pattern
  • Recognize the role of adverse neural tension as a contributor to neuromuscular imbalance especially in chronic pain patients;
  • Prescribe specific exercises to refine neuromotor control in both the upper and lower quarter;
  • Address specific somatic dysfunctions found in the vertebral column and pelvis with self mobilizing exercises and
  • Develop functional movement exercise programs for patients to incorporate into their home self management program.
