OVERVIEW

Dental Sleep Medicine Simplified is organized by Gordon J. Christensen - Practical Clinical Courses and will be held from Sep 13 - 14, 2024 at Provo, Utah, United States of America.

Description:
In recent years, sleep medicine has exploded in dental practices!  Many dentists are finding some aspects of sleep medicine fit well into busy general practice.  Gordon joins 2 experts in dental sleep medicine, Jamison Spencer and Jeff Wyscarver, to show how airway, bruxism, TMD, perio, and failure of restorations are related to sleep medicine.  This course focuses on screening (including sleep testing), diagnosis, treatment, and avoiding complications.  See which sleep appliances are best and how to properly bill for optimized third-party reimbursement.

Behavioral Objectives:
At the end of this program, consisting of pre-course online instruction with return of quizzes, and didactic and hands on instruction, the student should be able to:

  • Discuss the interactions between sleep disordered breathing and many critical aspects of dentistry
  • Screen their patients for possible sleep disordered breathing
  • Discuss the basics of reading a Home Sleep Test (HST) and Polysomnogram (PSG) report
  • Select which appliance will likely be most effective for a specific patient
  • Make initial occlusal records for custom appliance fabrication
  • Avoid side effects such as tooth movement and bite changes
  • Discuss the basic principles of ethical and legal billing of medical insurance.
