OVERVIEW

38th Annual Charles A. Sweet, Sr. Pediatric Dentistry Memorial Lecture is organized by University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and will be held on Apr 20, 2024 at University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, San Francisco, California, United States of America.

Description:
Treating Dental Trauma to Achieve Predictable Results:
Dental trauma covers a wide range of injuries, ranging from minor enamel fractures to more complex injuries involving pulp and periodontal tissues. When such emergencies happen, dentists need to make quick decisions to optimize long-term function and aesthetics. Dr. Ritwik will provide information on the biologic basis and clinical techniques for management of specific dental injuries in a case-based discussion format. Treatment recommendations based on contemporary dental trauma guidelines and evidence will enable participants to manage traumatic dental injuries in young patients with predictable outcomes.

Learning Objectives:
• To diagnose and classify dental injuries
• To evaluate effective and efficient treatment options
• To predict outcomes and manage complications from traumatic dental injuries

Pulp Therapy for Primary Teeth:
The successful management of deep carious lesions on primary teeth is critical in maintaining an intact, functional primary dentition. There are different treatment modalities and a wide variety of therapeutic medicaments that can be used for vital and non-vital pulp therapy in primary teeth. Dr. Ritwik will discuss pulp diagnosis and evidence-based treatment options for pediatric patients.

Learning Objectives:
• To diagnose vital and non-vital pulp in primary teeth
• To initiate effective pulp therapy techniques for primary teeth
• To understand contemporary medicaments and their effectiveness in primary pulp therapy

Aesthetic Solutions for Primary Teeth:
Pediatric dentistry often requires full coverage crowns to restore grossly decayed primary teeth. Stainless steel crowns have been used extensively and proven to be effective and lasting restorations. However, the primary limitation is poor aesthetics. More parents now desire aesthetic crowns for their children's primary teeth. This lecture will cover the options and techniques for restoring primary anterior and posterior teeth with aesthetic prefabricated zirconia crowns. Completed cases will be shared, including treatment planning, clinical preparation of teeth and postoperative follow up.

Learning Objectives:
• To examine different prefabricated primary zirconia crowns
• To employ techniques for achieving clinical success
• To troubleshoot common obstacles when using primary zirconia crowns
