The 26th Annual Rural Anesthesia for GP Anesthesiologists Conference is organized by the University of Calgary Office of Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development (CME & PD) and will be held on Jan 19, 2024, at Banff Park Lodge Resort Hotel & Conference Centre, Banff, Alberta, Canada.
Course Overview
This intensive course for GP anesthesiologists features a blend of expert didactic teaching and interactive small group workshops and offers opportunities for networking and exchange of information and ideas between leaders in the field and rural GP anesthesiologists.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, learners will be equipped to:
• Explain current issues and apply techniques in anaesthesia that are relevant to the practice of GP anesthesiologists in rural areas
• Apply knowledge and use practical application of skills required in a rural hospital
• Demonstrate competent and confident patient management
• Participate in networking and exchange of information and ideas between specialist anaesthetists and GP anesthesiologists
Post Course: Ultrasound Guided Nerve Block (Hands-on)
Practical hands-on course; demonstration and hands-on practice with ultrasound equipment.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, learners will be equipped to:
Demonstrate through comprehensive hands-on scanning, proper techniques for:
• Upper extremity blockade including inter scalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular and axillary brachial plexus nerve blocks
• Lower extremity blockade including femoral, adductor canal block, popliteal, sciatic and ankle blocks
• Truncal nerve blocks including transverses abdominal plane (TAP) blocks, rectus sheath block, ilioinguinal, iliohypogastric and transversal fascia plane (TFP) block
• Spinal ultrasound for neuraxial block

This one-credit-per-hour Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of The College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by the University of Calgary Office of Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development for up to 6.5 Mainpro+ credits.
Members of the American Academy of Family Physicians are eligible to receive up to 6.5 Prescribed credit for attendance at this event due to a reciprocal agreement with The College of Family Physicians of Canada.
Credits - Ultrasound Guided Nerve Block
