Hematology in Clinical Practice 2023 is organized by Uppsala University and will be held from Oct 10 - 13, 2023 at Uppsala, Uppland, Sweden.
Description:
A rapidly developing specialty in terms of both research and clinical diagnostics and therapy. Hematology is a subspecialty of internal medicine that has points of contact with e.g. general medicine, oncology and infectious medicine.
The majority of patients with non-malignant hematological diseases are managed by internal medicine physicians at county and regional hospitals. As far as anemia investigations are concerned, investigation and treatment often take place in primary care, and patients with anemia are current daily in most specialties. At the country's various hematology clinics, patients with severe bone marrow diseases, such as acute and chronic leukaemias, myeloma, malignant lymphomas and various conditions with bone marrow failure, are mainly cared for. The university clinics also carry out extensive activities with autologous and/or allogeneic stem cell transplantation.
Overall goals:
To provide knowledge about the causes, diagnostics, initial management and treatment of the most common blood diseases.
The purpose of the course is to give the individual participant a basis and a tool to be able to independently recognize, diagnose and more basically be able to handle the most common blood diseases, to react to acute hematological conditions and to know blood diseases/disease conditions where referral to a hematologist is indicated/ necessary.
Results for the participant:
After completing the course, the participant is expected to:
• Be able to independently initiate investigations into and begin treatment of various types of anemia - Be able to independently initiate investigations, have good knowledge of indications for referral - Have knowledge of treatment for chronic and acute leukemia, lymphoma, thrombocytopenia and other conditions with a tendency to bleed, polyglobuli and thrombocytosis .
• Know the principles of bone marrow transplantation.
• Be able to independently initiate treatment for acute hematological conditions including acute infectious conditions for hematological disease
