OVERVIEW

Adventure and Learn Hawaii is organized by The University of British Columbia (UBC) and will be held from Jan 30 - Feb 03, 2023, at Fairmont Orchid - Hawaii, Big Island, Hawaii, United States of America.

Description:
Maintenance of Dental Implants and How to Avoid Long-term Complications
Dental implants are highly successful in most patients. However, there are many factors to consider when choosing this treatment plan for your patient. Some patients may present with risk factors for future implant complications or failure. Implant treatment should not end when implants have effectively osseointegrated and restored; instead, they need life-long maintenance. Implants with peri-implantitis should be recognized early and treated without any delays. This lecture will present risk factors in implant dentistry, describe a maintenance program for dental implants and discuss the etiology and management of peri-implant mucositis and periimplantitis.

Learning Objectives:
• Identify patients with risks for implant complications and failure
• Review the etiology and diagnostic criteria for peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis
• Learn how to implement an implant maintenance program
• Discuss the treatment options for peri-implantitis

Blueprint for Anterior Esthetics with Natural Teeth and Implants
Gummy smile, uneven gingival margins, long teeth with exposed roots, the presence of periodontal disease, and ridge deficiency can cause stress and anxiety for our patients. A beautiful smile is linked to better self-confidence and happiness. This lecture covers the basic blueprints for anterior esthetics including diagnostic assessment, esthetic crown lengthening, bone augmentation, ideal implant placement and soft tissue grafting. Case studies with suboptimal results will also be presented for learning purposes.

Learning Objectives:
• Review the principles of anterior esthetics, assessment, and treatment goals
• Discuss ideal implant placement at the anterior maxilla
• Discuss socket grafting and other bone augmentation techniques
• Learn the technique for esthetic crown lengthening
• Learn about different techniques for soft tissue grafting
• Learn from cases with suboptimal treatment outcomes

Variants of Normal Radiologic Anatomy that May Simulate Disease on Panoramic Images
Recognizing the range of normal anatomical appearances on a well-made image is the most elementary step in image interpretation. At times, however, normal appearances can be altered as a result of patient anatomy, imaging system-related idiosyncrasies, or errors in image acquisition. This lecture will focus on a systematic approach to the investigation of panoramic images, and explore patient and machine-related factors that may disrupt normal appearances.

Learning Objectives:
• Learn a systematic approach to a panoramic image investigation
• Understand the range of appearances of normal anatomy on panoramic images
• Understand how patient- and panoramic system-related factors can alter the appearance of normal anatomy
• Identify key areas on the panoramic image where normal anatomy can be misdiagnosed as a disease

10 Radiologic Diagnoses Every Dentist Should Know
When you discover something that looks unusual on a radiologic image, do you attempt to investigate the finding further yourself, or do you refer the patient to another practitioner for a diagnosis? And when you receive the diagnosis, do you know what to do next? In this session, we will discuss and explore the key radiologic features of 10 entities, some of which may be commonly seen, some of which may be variations of normal anatomy or hamartomas, and others of which may be “true lesions” that may require action and follow-up.

Learning Objectives:
• Develop a systematic strategy for investigating a radiologic finding
• Identify the key radiologic features of common anomalies or abnormalities, and understand these features in the context of the biological process from which have arisen
• Understand the necessity or urgency of a radiologic finding for action and follow-up
