Advanced Team Physician Course (ATPC) 2023 is organized by American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and will be held from Dec 06 - 08, 2023 at Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City, Salt Lake City, Utah, United States of America.

Description:
The Advanced Team Physician Course aims to provide up-to-date information on the evaluation and treatment of medical illnesses and musculoskeletal injuries occurring in competitive and recreational athletes. While the course focuses on athletes participating in team sports, many topics are applicable to competitions in individual sports. This live activity format uses lectures, case presentations, panel discussions, question-and-answer sessions as well as informal discussions with the faculty. Presenters rely on evidence-based medicine where available. This course is a collaborative effort between the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine (AOASM) and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM).

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity learners should be able to:
• Discuss key characteristics of injury prevention programs that contribute to success.
• Describe the expected risk reduction from neuromuscular training programs.
• Discuss the various types of ACL grafts and when it is appropriate to use each of them.
• Identify indications for ACL augmentation and adjust procedures in primary and revision settings.
• Identify the pros and cons of the different types of ACL reconstruction adjuncts being performed.
• Discuss the psychological implications of ACL injuries and rehabilitation.
• Describe the primary psychological coping skills needed for ACL reconstruction and return to play processes.
• Identify the mental performance concerns that emerge with ACL reconstruction processes.
• Discuss the importance of criterion-based rehabilitation protocols and return to sport decisions following ACL surgery.
• Identify the rehabilitation concepts of neurocognitive training and rate of force development following ACL injury.
• Discuss the latest updates from the 6th Concussion in Sport Consensus Statement.
• Describe the approach to return to play after concussion in unique situations/sports.
• Identify rehabilitation considerations for acute and persistent post-concussive symptoms based on clinical concussion profile.
• Describe OMT rehabilitation methods for concussion.
• Discuss new technology in the evaluation and treatment of concussion.
• Describe the management of difficult concussion cases.
• Discuss the anterior knee anatomy relevant to an advanced ultrasound examination.
• Describe the advanced ultrasound examination of the anterior knee.
• Describe the sonographic appearance of anterior knee pathology.
• Discuss the medial knee anatomy relevant to an advanced ultrasound examination.
• Describe the advanced ultrasound examination of the medial knee.

• Discuss how botulinum toxin can be used for the treatment of chronic exertional compartment syndrome.
• Describe why pre-season ultrasound screening may predict future injury in long-distance runners.
• Describe two different techniques for performing ultrasound guided carpal tunnel releases.
• Discuss current orthobiologics research in relation to the treatment of intra-articular pathology in athletes.
• Describe how ultrasound can be used to identify an athlete at risk for a hamstring strain.
• Discuss the current thinking on the diagnosis and management of breathing issues in athletes.
• Describe the science of continuous glucose monitoring and athletic participation.
• Discuss differential diagnoses and work-ups as well as treatment options in the fatigued athlete in the post-COVID era.
• Define traditional and novel approaches to managing athletes who require anticoagulation.
• Discuss medical and nutrition considerations in ultra-endurance athletes.
• Describe different types of hip and pelvis stress fractures and the return to play differences for each.
• Discuss the utility of musculoskeletal ultrasound in the diagnosis of posterior hip pain.
• Describe how a multidisciplinary clinic can provide comprehensive care for challenging hip pain cases.
• Discuss how to manage hip pain in a case-based format.
• Identify the process of rehabilitation after hip arthroscopy and how different risk factors affect return to play.
• Define standards of care as it relates to emergency action planning in sports medicine.
• Discuss the approach to emergency planning and rescues in challenging environments.
• Describe immobilization and extraction techniques.
• Discuss considerations in the management of international sports medicine emergencies.
• Identify how to incorporate ultrasound diagnostics to sideline emergency management.
• Describe the recent Return to Play consensus recommendations.
• Identify how a meeting can be run in an efficient and productive manner using organizational psychology principles.
• Discuss the current controversies with marijuana and athletes including testing and screening for substance use.
• Describe how injections and imaging can be used to diagnose and treat thoracic outlet syndrome.
• Describe how athlete transfer and disqualification scenarios can affect the care provided by physicians.
• Discuss the appropriate physical examination tests for identifying labral and rotator cuff pathology of the shoulder.
• Define the various options for treating AC separations which occur during the playing season.
• Identify the causative mechanisms of proximal biceps and superior labral pathology in athletes.
• Identify athletes who are at high risk for recurrent anterior shoulder instability, and discuss when to employ operative versus nonoperative management.
• Describe the effect of socioeconomic status on outcomes after shoulder injuries and surgeries.
• Discuss real cases and how to develop treatment plans regarding shoulder pathology in athletes.
