OVERVIEW

Acute neurological symptoms and diseases is organized by Uppsala University and will be held from Apr 24 - 27, 2023 at Uppsala, Uppland, Sweden.

Description:
It is estimated that about one-third of the patients that a physician in a medical clinic's emergency department meets, seek for neurological symptoms. The course is intended as training for doctors who today receive patients with neurological symptoms in the emergency department. Contact with the regional clinic's neurospecialists forms an important part of the work.

Many acute neurological diseases risk leading to permanent disability with impairment of cognitive functions, vision and movement ability. It is therefore important to be able to interpret neurological symptoms, make an adequate investigation and start treatment quickly.

Common neurological symptoms, e.g. headache and dizziness, usually have no serious cause, and it can be difficult to distinguish patients with serious illness. Neurology is considered by many doctors to be a "difficult" diagnostic field. The course therefore places emphasis on how the emergency physician, with the support of the basic investigation – clinical neurological examination with an anchoring in neuroanatomical thinking, neuroradiology, lumbar puncture and blood sampling – arrives at a diagnosis.

Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.
