Program Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
• recognize the shifting paradigm of the management of chronic hypercapnic respiratory failure.
• understand how to perform an in clinic titration of home mechanical ventilation.
• utilize remote monitoring to manage patients on home ventilation.
• be familiar with how to manage patients with obstructive sleep apnea and obesity hypoventilation overlaps.
• understand how to safely transition new tracheostomy patients from hospital to home.
• understand how to evaluate tracheostomy patients for speech and swallowing function.
• recognize the challenging psychosocial issues that patients face when transitioning from pediatric to adult care.
• understand how to initiate non-invasive ventilation.
• understand how to interpret a ventilator download and troubleshoot.
• understand how to manage a chronic tracheostomy.
• be more equipped to deliver serious news to patients and families.
