23rd Annual Anesthesia meeting in Puerto Vallarta is organized by University of Michigan Department of Anesthesiology and will be held from Feb 02 - 07, 2020 at The Westin Resort & Spa, Puerto Vallarta, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico.
Course Description:
This course is designed to provide the anesthesia provider with a review of the most recent information of many of the components that go into making a successful practice of anesthesiology.
This meeting will focus on practical updates in clinical subspecialty areas in our field. The conference will include topics addressing the past, present, and possible future innovations of anesthesia machines as well as application of a model of uptake and distribution with implications of low and minimal flow and closed circuit anesthesia on cost and environmental impact. Systems based topics will include discussion of the state of global health in surgery and anesthesia, implications of the use of personal electronic devices and internet in the operation room, the impact of culture on patient safety, how the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group analyzes data from academic and community hospitals across the country and shares clinical metrics with providers and practices, and why it is important to implement team training in healthcare. Pediatric topics will include practice of spinal anesthesia with a discussion of neurotoxicity, management of pediatric trauma, and the assessment of the pediatric patient with obstructive sleep apnea for ambulatory surgery. Cardiac anesthesia topics will include the management of the adult congenital heart disease patient for non-cardiac surgery and the management of the patient with right heart disease for non-cardiac surgery. A Neuroanesthesiology topic will focus on the perioperative considerations for patients having spine surgery and new surgical interventions for spine disease. Additional adult content will include an update on point of care coagulation testing and coagulation management, why it is important for today’s anesthesiologist to develop a Point of Care Ultrasound skill set, perioperative management of and update on newer angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers, and review of the latest research and best practices to help prevent surgical site infections in patients undergoing anesthesia. Obstetric Anesthesiology topic will be an overview of epidemiology, diagnosis and management of postpartum hemorrhage along with a brief review of the evidence supporting common maternal early warning signs of hemorrhage. Acute and Chronic pain topics will include advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging to facilitate peripheral nerve blocks and advances in interventional procedures to treat chronic pain.
