International Surgical Congress Of The Association Of Surgeons Of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI) is organized by Association Of Surgeons Of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI) and would be held during May 03 - 05, 2017 at Scottish Exhibition And Conference Centre , Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

The theme of the congress will be ‘Safer Surgery’, recognising the significant efforts and initiatives to ensure contemporary surgical services deliver safe and effective care. Much has been made of comparisons of surgical care with the airline industry, but this year we are delighted to have Mark Gallagher as one of our keynote speakers. Mark has a 25 year association with Formula 1 Motor Racing, being a key member of the senior management team at Jordan Grand Prix and has significant experience and understanding of the importance of leadership and team work in ensuring safety in this high risk sporting environment. We will also look forward to welcoming Dr Catherine Calderwood, Chief Medical Officer for Scotland, and four outstanding College eponymous lecturers.

Building on the success of recent congresses, there will continue to be a strong emphasis on high quality plenary sessions and symposia of relevance to established consultants and trainees, with a major focus on elective and emergency general surgical care. Unscheduled surgical admissions in many institutions account for 60-70% of all hospital in-patient admissions, emphasising the importance of ensuring this care is delivered competently and safely. We have freshened aspects of the programme, incorporating numerous educational updates and videos within short paper sessions, and ensuring the very best abstracts are presented in plenary sessions.
